Policies

Enrollment & Tuition

Students enroll for the entire academic year. Tuition is due at the beginning of the academic year and can be paid in two installments (one in September one in January). There is no refund for missed classes (see also our policy on class cancellations). All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. Tuition is refundable until the beginning of the fourth class, as follows: If the refund request is received prior to the beginning of the second class, 100% refund; prior to the third class, 75% refund; prior to the fourth class, 50% refund. NO refunds are available after the fourth class has begun.

Class Placement

Student placement for school-age children is determined by age and the grade the student enters in the fall. When you enroll your child(ren), please make the appropriate selection. In exceptional cases, upon recommendation of a teacher, a student may be advised to switch to another class.  The final decision lies with the Board of Directors.

Class Size

Class size is typically between 4 and 12 students. In the event that registration for a certain course is too low, the Deutsche Schule -German School Milwaukee reserves the right to cancel that class and refund all payments, including the $50 registration fee.

Class cancellations

Classes may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions and families will be notified in the event of a class cancellation by 7 AM. We ask families to check their email, our website and our Facebook page for updates.  In making a decision on cancellations, we take into account several factors including the safety of families travelling to Milwaukee from other communities and cancellations of weekend events in MPS and other school districts surrounding Milwaukee. If at any time, you feel it is unsafe for your family to travel to school, please stay home. There is one make-up class scheduled into Deutsche Schule - German School Milwaukee calender per school year due to weather related reasons. Additional classes cancelled for weather-related reasons will not be rescheduled. If an instructor is unavailable for class (e.g. due to illness), every effort will be made to engage a qualified substitute teacher to lead the class and avoid class cancellation. .

Class Participation

By participating in classes with the Deutsche Schule - German School Milwaukee, it is understood that this consent form has been reviewed and agree upon by the registering party. Board Members, Teachers, the facility in which classes are held, nor volunteers or their family members shall be held liable for the above noted circumstance, or any other misfortunes that may affect you or your child while participating in our classes or events. You are participating of your own volition.  Some activities have an inherent risk and although every attempt will be made to ensure everyone’s safety, the risk of injury cannot be completely avoided.

Correct Contact Information

It is the individual student’s, or parent of the student’s, responsibility to make sure the school has been provided with your current email address. Official notices are sent out via email/the Remind App and are also posted to our Facebook page. To update your contact information, please provide your new information via email to the school’s assistant director

Photo Release

Photo release: The Deutsche Schule staff occasionally take pictures of students in their classes or during events to use in Deutsche Schule publications, or marketing materials. If you prefer that we not include photos of your child(ren), please check the relevant box during registration.

Covid-19

In response to COVID-19, we continue to follow recommendations of federal, state and local governments/health agencies.

The Deutsche Schule - German School Milwaukee Board Members and Teachers have put in place preventative measures to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19 and will continue to work together to provide a safe and productive educational environment. While we continue to follow agreed upon processes to minimize exposure, it is not possible to guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19 or any other illness. Attending any of our school activities could increase your risk and your child(ren)’s risk of contracting COVID-19 or some other illness.

By agreeing to this disclaimer, you acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that you may be exposed to, or infected by, such a virus and that such exposure may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability and even death. Thereby, you are acknowledging that you voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to your child(ren), or yourself as noted above. Further, accepting this disclaimer, you agree to not hold liable any school Board Members, teachers, volunteers, or any of their family members. This agreement holds that you agree to release covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless the school employees, agents and representatives from the claims including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating there to.
